A Patient Sobrato Plans Market Street Towers in San Jose

Mountain View, CA-based The Sobrato Organization submitted development plans for Market Street Towers, a 19-story Class A office tower in downtown San Jose. The latest vision for the 1.5-acre site at Market and West San Carlos streets, previously called Block 8, is for 584,658 square feet of office and retail.

The development would feature more than 23,000 square feet of rooftop sky gardens and 13 floors of office space, many encompassing 50,000-square-foot floorplates, as well as 16,372 square feet of retail.

The site currently houses a parking lot and is adjacent to San Jose’s Cesar Chavez Park, near Diridon Caltrain station and future BART stations. The surrounding area is at the center of several recent campus development plans involving Google, Jay Paul Co. Boston Properties, TMG and Adobe.

A construction timeline has not yet been set, though Sobrato is known for its patience. It originally acquired the site roughly nine years ago from the disbanded San Jose Redevelopment Agency.
