A Finish Date for the 200K-SF Central Library
There is now a completion date for Austin’s new central library. Following more than four years of construction, the $125-million facility at 710 W. Cesar Chavez St. in the CBD will open Oct. 28, 2017. The 200,000-square-foot Central Library is twice the size of, and will replace, Faulk Central Library at 800 Guadalupe St.
The new library will offer books and reading activities, as well as a large atrium, an art gallery space and an on-site café. The Cookbook Café will offer foods coming from various cookbooks that will be available at the library. Other amenities will include a cooking demonstration space and event center.
The Central Library’s opening date continued to be pushed back; it was first set to open in November 2016, then May 2017.
