A 5.0 Quake for Los Angeles?
Earthquakes are always on the back-burners of Los Angeles residents’ minds. Now, it might be more pronounced.
Geophysicists at NASA’s JPL has said that there is a 99-percent chance that there will be about 5.0-magnitude earthquake in the metro area within the next two-and-a-half years. The epicenter will apparently be in La Habra.
Specialists in the field says the magnitude could even be greater, with a 30% change of a quake hitting up to 6.3.
The good news? The U.S. Geological Survey says the chances of a 5.0-quake are only 85 percent in the next three years.
Los Angeles is already preparing, with the Los Angeles City Council having passed a mandatory retrofit ordinance to improve the City’s seismic safety.
