‘Queen of Downtown’ Schatz Steps Away from CCA

Long-time DTLA advocate and business leader Carol Schatz has revealed plans to transition out of her role leading Los Angeles’ Central City Association. Schatz says she expects to serve in an advisory capacity for the CCA after a successor is selected. Schatz still plans to run its sister organization, the Downtown Center Business Improvement District.

Under Schatz’ leadership for more than 20 years, the lobbying organization grew from fewer than 100 members and a budget of approximately $750,000, to boasting a roster of 500 businesses and a budget pushing nearly $3 million.

Along the way, the organization gained the ear of City Hall, and proved to be a powerful force shaping the face of DTLA into more of a 24-hour urban destination.
