$837M San Antonio Hospital Sets August Opening
University Health is putting the finishing touches on its latest expansion project, a new Women’s & Children’s Hospital that will span 1.1 million square feet in the heart of the South Texas Medical Center. The facility will be a Level IV Natal Intensive Care Unit and Level IV Maternal Center, the highest state designation a hospital can receive for this type of care.
Set to open in late August, the San Antonio Business Journal reports the 12-story tower is expected to deliver needed bed capacity and to draw more top-tier medical talent to San Antonio.
The new tower will house 300 beds and a Women’s Center for OB-GYN services that spans nearly 58,000 square feet. It will include labor and delivery suites, and a dedicated children’s emergency department.
A new parking structure and a three-story attached building housing pharmacy, dining and other associated spaces take the total cost of the tower project to about $837 million.
