$800M Campus Revamp Will Be MN’s Largest Healthcare CapEx Project

The board of Essentia Health, an integrated health system headquartered in Duluth, MN, has approved Vision Northland, an $800-million project to replace or renovate buildings on its downtown campus. It will be the largest private investment in Duluth history, and reportedly the largest healthcare capital expenditure ever undertaken in Minnesota.

Vision Northland will build 800,000 square feet of new facilities, and renovate approximately 114,000 square feet of existing facilities. Plans call for a new St. Mary’s Medical Center, a clinic building and an outpatient surgery center.

The project is targeted for completion in 2022, and will reduce Essentia’s overall footprint in downtown Duluth by 240,000 square feet, opening up space for other development.

“Vision Northland will serve as a catalyst for further development, bringing the best level of care possible to our patients while retaining and attracting the brightest talents to serve our communities,” said Essentia CEO David C. Herman.
