$69M AC by Marriott is On, Thanks to Incentive

A $4.1-million incentive from Fort Worth’s Downtown Tax Increment Finance District is leading to the construction of a 16-story, 216-key AC by Marriott Hotel. Developer Jackson Shaw Co. of Dallas indicated that, without the incentive, the project couldn’t move forward.

The issue that stymied the $68.5-million project at Fifth and Main streets was whether public dollars could pay for a building transformer required by Oncor. In downtown Fort Worth, the power company requires an electrical vault for the transformer, as well as two backups, in case of outages.

Jackson Shaw indicated it would begin work on the hotel in mid-2018, and it would take two years to complete. In addition to guest rooms, the building will offer space for shops, restaurants, meeting rooms and a rooftop patio.
