$65M Cold Storage Facility Could Be Headed for Lockhart
One of the nation’s most prominent developers is behind an effort to build a $65 million cold storage facility in Lockhart. A business linked to Related Cos. hopes to gain approval for an incentive package from the town to move forward on a 310,000-square-foot foot facility. Related Cos. developed Hudson Yards in Manhattan and the Grand LA in Los Angeles.
The company aims to open the cold storage facility in early 2025 and employ at least 100 people at the 53-acre site north of State Highway 130 along Farm to Market Road 2001. The Austin Business Journal reports the company has plans to expand the cold storage facility by 147,000 square feet and could eventually build out an additional 877,900 square feet in industrial space on the campus,
RealCold will own and operate the facility. Its customers include a mix of grocery stores, that deliver for and replenish food within stores, food producers making and sending products elsewhere, and some that are direct-to-consumer.
