$54M Military Exchange Going North at Fort Sam Houston

Construction is underway on a 200,000-square-foot Exchange shopping center at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio. Endeavor Real Estate Group, based in Austin, is developing the 210,000-square-foot project, which will replace Fort Sam’s current facility, when it is completed in 2020. White Construction Co. is the general contractor.

The facility will include the main exchange, as well as a mall with a medical clinic and pharmacy, and food court containing a Starbucks, Sarku Japan, Freshens Subway, Charleys, Boston Market, Qdoba and Arby’s.

Exchange shopping centers, overseen by the Department of Defense, offer tax-free shopping to authorized personnel. They are typically funded through base earnings. In this case, 94% of the project is being funded by Fort Sam Houston.
