$51M for NYC Style

New York City plans to spend $51 million to help the garment manufacturing business expand. “I’m committed not just to the stability of garment manufacturing, but to its growth,” said Deputy Mayor Alicia Glen.

The cash will come from the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC), in collaboration with the Council of Fashion Designers of America and the Garment District Alliance. The money includes grants to help firms move to new hubs for garment manufacturing in the City, like the Sunset Park neighborhood in Brooklyn, now home to just over 100 garment manufacturing firms.

Last month, the City announced its plans to build a $136 million “hub” in Sunset Park for garment manufacturing, as well as film and television production at the old, city-owned Bush Terminal.
