$4B American Dream Miami Approved, 6M-SF Mega-Complex Would Be Nation’s Largest
American Dream Miami, a $4-billion retail and entertainment complex in Miami, has won Miami-Dade County Commission zoning approval. Canadian developer Triple Five plans to develop a mix of six million square feet of retail shops, restaurants and 2,000 hotel rooms on 175 acres of vacant land near Interstate 75 and Florida’s Turnpike, northwest of Miami International Airport.
The development concept is less mall and more theme-park, with 3.5 million square feet of retail space, and 1.5 million for entertainment. Planned attractions include an indoor ski slope, submarine ride, water park and skating rink. American Dream Miami would be roughly 1.2 million square feet larger than the Mall of American in Minnesota, currently the largest in the U.S.
There’s still more work for the developer to do toward securing other local, state and federal permits, as well as financing, before the South Florida project commences construction.
