$450M Dickies Arena Going North in Fort Worth
Construction has begun on a $450-million, multi-purpose arena in Fort Worth. “Dickies Arena,” so called because workwear clothing company Dickies was awarded naming rights, will open in November 2019 at the Will Rogers Memorial Center on Lancaster Drive.
The arena will seat from 12,000 to 14,000, and feature 100,000 square feet of exhibit space. Also part of the project is a 2,200-space parking garage, which will open in late 2017.
The arena is funded through a public-private partnership, with the city of Fort Worth putting $225 million into the project after voters approved three different user taxes in 2014. The remainder came courtesy of private funds. Because of the way the arena’s funding was compiled, the venue itself is being set up as a non-profit called Multipurpose Arena Fort Worth, which will operate from event proceeds.
