$390M Addition Planned for Hospital Campus

University Health System (UHS) and University of Texas Health San Antonio announced their intent to build a $390 million Women & Children’s Inpatient Tower on the South Texas Medical Center campus in northwest San Antonio. The facility will be going north on top of the hospital’s original parking garage.

With the extra space, UHS will be able to increase the number of patients served, while consolidating services for women and children that are currently in various buildings. The facility will house 250 inpatient rooms for women and children, in addition to labor, delivery and women’s operating rooms. The project will also fill currently unused space with new outpatient heart and vascular practices, and advanced endoscopy services.

The tower could open in 2022, pending Commissioners Court approval, which is expected shortly.
