$30M Renovation Underway at Fair Park Buildings
Renovations have begun on buildings throughout the 277-acre Fair Park, just east of downtown Dallas, and the home of the annual Texas State Fair. The $30-million upgrades are spearheaded by the City of Dallas Parks and Recreation department, and are funded by taxpayer-approved bonds.
Crews are repairing stone and restoring interior and exterior art, lighting, and doors at the Hall of State, which was built in 1936 in the beaux arts style. The structure is on the National Register of Historic Places as a part of Fair Park, and also is a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark.
In the coming months, renovations are planned for The Coliseum (including new arena seating and ceiling repairs); the African American Museum (a new gallery, rotunda lighting and a new HVAC system); and the Music Hall (new lighting, ceiling repairs and ADA improvements). Construction is expected to wrap up in time for the 2020 Texas State Fair.
