$30K Design Competition to Re-Think Park Avenue

The designer who comes up with the best idea to redevelop the median strips on Park Ave. can win up to $30,000 from Fisher Brothers.

“We view it as a way to demonstrate to the City the possibilities of what these medians can become,” said Winston Fisher, partner with Fisher Brothers.

The median strip between the cars going uptown and the cars headed downtown is already nicely gardened on Park Ave. Sometimes, the centerline plays hosts to sculpture exhibitions (pictured). However, Fisher believes that more can be done to enliven and activate these spaces…though it’s not clear what kind of public space might fit into the thin strips between the whizzing cars.  A coffee kiosk or food truck? A tiny playground?

A jury of architects will select a $25,000 grand prize winner, and a popular vote will determine a $5,000 prize winner.
