3 LI Hospitals Granted $18M for Capital Improvements

Three Long Island hospitals are among 25 across New York State receiving a total of $187 million in state funds toward capital improvements. “These investments will continue to build a modern, sustainable and fully-integrated health care infrastructure centered on improving the well-being of all New Yorkers,” Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Wednesday.

The three hospitals—John T. Mather Memorial Hospital and St. Charles Hospital, both in Port Jefferson; and Mercy Medical Center in Rockville Centre—will receive a combined $17.9 million through the Statewide Health Care Facility Transformation Program. They’ll use the funds for projects ranging from construction of an outpatient behavioral health center to expanding the emergency department.

Four facilities in New York City were also among the awardees in Wednesday’s round of grants. The program, administered by the Department of Health and the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York, will announce additional awards in the coming months.
