2K Acres Under Contract, MXU Development Proposed
SouthStar Communities entered into an agreement with the Texas General Land Office to acquire 1,963 acres in Comal County, TX, north of San Antonio. The New Braunfels, TX-headquartered SouthStar is planning a mixed-use development on the site, which is split by Interstate 35. The buildout for the proposed development would take approximately 20 years.
The interstate splits the acreage; the west tract consists of 731 acres extending to FM 1102. Meanwhile, the eastern tract, totaling 1,232 acres, runs from the interstate to FM 1101. Rick Sheldon Real Estate LLC is listed as marketing the land.
“We’re really big on building communities within a great community,” said SouthStar’s Thad Rutherford at a recent Greater New Braunfels Economic Development Foundation luncheon, during which the potential development was announced. “That’s one of the reasons why we’re here in New Braunfels.”
