$26M Housing Helps Seniors Live Independently

Van Cortlandt Green welcomed low- and middle-income seniors to 85 new affordable apartments at 6469 Broadway, in the Riverdale neighborhood of the Bronx, NY.

The entire $26.4-million property was designed to provide “high-quality housing that allows seniors to live independently in their own homes,” said James S. Rubin, commissioner of New York State Homes and Community Renewal.

Handicapped-accessible kitchens and bathrooms will allow many residents to stay in place for a longer time, without having to move to a nursing home. The building includes 4,000 square feet of community facility space, which will be leased as a social adult daycare center. Van Cortlandt Green was also designed to be LEED Silver-certified; the studio apartments are energy efficient and provide healthy indoor air quality.
