$263M Bond Package to Go Before Voters
The Comal Independent School District’s board of trustees voted to put a $263.5 million bond package before voters on May 6. If the package is approved, the ISD, which serves schools in Comal County, north of San Antonio, TX, will have money to build two additional much-needed high schools. The bond is geared toward reducing current crowding at Smithson Valley High School and Canyon High School, located at 1510 Interstate 35 in New Braunfels, TX.
Comal Forward board member Terry Estep said that Smithson Valley at 14001 SH 46 in Spring Branch, TX, was originally built for 2,500 students. Current enrollment is 2,611 students, with 200 of those enrolled new for the 2016-2017 school year.
Though some trustees expressed concerns about affordability, the board voted 6-1 to have the bond election.
