$250M Queen Mary Island Proposed
Los Angeles-based Urban Commons proposed a $250-million renovation of the iconic Queen Mary, plus the 65 acres surrounding the ship, which is docked in Long Beach, CA. The investment and development firm envisions a waterfront entertainment destination called Queen Mary Island.
Designed by Gensler, the project will include music, entertainment, dining, retail and adventure options with help from a 2,400-square-foot boardwalk, 700,000 square feet of cafes, bars, eclectic retail shops and a 200-room hotel.
Also planned are a 5,000-seat waterfront amphitheater and London-based Urban Legacies’ Urban Adventure, a 150,000-square-foot, multi-activity concept. The facility includes 20 interactive and experiential activities, such as an indoor ice climbing wall, surfing, canyoning, skydiving, zip lining and a trampoline park.
Urban Commons expects Queen Mary Island to take six to eight years to complete.
