250K-SF Denver-Area Data Center to Open Early Next Year
Flexential has set a target opening date for its fifth Denver-area data center. With a 22.5-megawatt capacity across 249,000 square feet, the data center is set to be operational by January next year.
The key contractor on the project, PCL Construction, has said the project will cost $192 million to build.
Backlash against data centers is a major issue nationwide due to water and power demands. Denver proper has a moratorium on new data centers. Parker, where the data center will be built, is just outside Denver.
Flexential says its data center will not affect the bills of other electricity customers in the area. The data center will draw its electrical power supplied from Core Electric Cooperative, an electric utility in Douglas County. The data center also uses a cooling system for computing racks that doesn’t consume water, meaning the site’s water hookups will be for the bathrooms and water fountains only.
