25-Story Student Housing Tower Planned for U District

25-Story Student Housing Tower Planned for U District

Chicago-based CA Ventures is moving forward with a proposed 25-story, 221-unit student housing project in the University District of Seattle. Located at 1205 NE 50th St., the site was purchased by CA Ventures in late 2021 for $16.5 million and is a block west of the company’s recently completed apartment project with a new Safeway.

According to the Puget Sound Business Journal, GGLO is the project architect and DCI Engineers and Navix Engineering are also on the team. The site once housed a Walgreen’s store, which is planned to be an open space next to the new tower.

According to the proposal from CA Ventures, “The building’s massing is carefully crafted to relate to the immediate context and contribute to the emerging tower language of the U District through a more playful, exuberant massing, tactile materials and livable terraces with open space at the tower setbacks.” Seattle’s design board is scheduled to review the proposal on April 24th.
