2024 Summer Olympics Bid Faces Another Hurdle
With international cities bidding to host the 2024 Summer Olympics, Los Angeles continues to face obstacles, no pun intended. Not only are cost overruns a hot topic, but the Griffith Park Advisory Board has also openly rejected using the land as a venue for BMX and off-road bicycle events.
Their reasoning is that “biking on trails” is against park rules and would damage “the delicate ecosystem.”
However, there is still potential for these rules to be overturned by Mayor Garccetti. If he is successful in coercing Griffith Park to host, the aftermath of the Games would leave Los Angeles bikers an extensive mountain trail and extreme sports enthusiasts a 4.7-acre biking arena.
