1M-SF Tower Rises on Former Houston Chronicle Site
Hines and Ivanhoe Cambridge began construction of a 47-story, one-million-square-foot office tower at 800 Texas Ave., the site of the former Houston Chronicle Building. The tower is scheduled to open in late 2021, and has two anchor tenants.
The law firm of Vinson & Elkins signed a 16-year lease for 212,000 square feet, on the building’s top seven floors. The other tenant is Hines, which is planning to relocate its global headquarters to the building. The international developer signed a 15-year-lease for approximately 155,000 square feet.
Pelli Clarke Pelli is the architect of record. Vinson & Elkins was represented by Tim Relyea, Scott Wegmann, Kevin Snodgrass, Jim Bailey and Brooke Wommack with Cushman & Wakefield, and the owner was represented by Michael Anderson with Colvill Office Properties. JLL advised the owner on the construction financing, which was arranged by New York Life Real Estate Investors, a division of NYL Investors LLC.
