$1B MXU Proposed on former Register Site in Santa Ana

Caribou Industries unveiled plans for 625IVE, a $1-billion mixed-use ‘mini urban city’ on a 20-acre site in Santa Ana, CA. The 2.3-million-square-foot development is proposed on the former Grand Avenue home of the Orange County Register newspaper, near the Santa Ana Regional Transportation Center.

Developer Mike Harrah envisions erecting Orange County’s tallest buildings that would house more than 1,000 residential units, a 171-room hotel, as well nearly 1.1 million square feet of office and roughly 44,000 square feet of retail space. The project would serve as a gateway to historic downtown Santa Ana, which is undergoing an urban transformation with hip restaurants, retailers and galleries.

The project would feature a blend of apartments and condos, including two nearly 500-foot tall, 37-story towers, smaller residential buildings and a 20-story office tower. The existing printing facility would be converted into creative offices, and the five-story former newsroom building will remain as offices.
