$1B Electric Semi-Truck Plant, 2,000 Jobs Coming to Arizona
Nikola Motor Co. plans to build a $1-billion manufacturing plant and relocate its R&D, as well as company headquarters to Phoenix. The 2,000-job facility is slated to be developed on 500 acres in Buckeye, on land owned by Scottsdale, AZ-based El Dorado Holdings and JDM Partners.
Construction is projected to commence by the end of 2019 on the parcel at Sun Valley Parkway and the future Wintersburg Parkway. The site is located at one of the entrances to Douglas Ranch/Trillium, a new master-planned community being developed by El Dorado and JDM, which is anticipated to ultimately be home to more than 300,000 residents.
Nikola, which is currently based in Salt Lake City, plans to make hydrogen-electric semi-trucks at the new facility. The company also produces electric and hydrogen-electric vehicles and parts. Nikola will immediately start the process of transferring its R&D and HQ to Arizona, targeting completion by October 2018.
