174 Power Eyeing Ector County for Oberon Solar Plant

174 Power Global, a solar energy power manufacturer headquartered in Irvine, CA, is examining space in West Texas’s Ector County to build a 50-mw project dubbed Oberon Solar. If the company receives the tax abatements it’s seeking, it will invest $50 million on currently unused land in western Ector County.

174, an affiliate of Hanwha Group, also recently began a 236-mw project in Pecos County, located in southwest Texas. That development, which the company indicated is the largest installed photovoltaic project in Texas, is expected to be completed in late 2018. Officials with the company indicated they’re looking to other areas in Texas for new developments.

“Very simply, there’s a lot of sun,” 174’s Jason Garewal told the Odessa American. “There’s good transmission infrastructure, and there’s a demand for renewable energy in Texas, in general.”
