$15M for Parks in Poor Neighborhoods

New York City’s most famous parks — like Central Park and the High Line — are protected by generous, private “park conservancies,” whose members contribute money and time. A year and a half ago, eight of those park conservancies pledged to contribute $15 million through 2018 to City parks in neighborhoods with high concentrations of poverty. This money is already making a big difference — from training gardeners to repairing crumbling monuments, according to a Feb. 27, 2017, update from City Hall.

The initiative was launched in 2014 to revitalize historically underfunded parks in lower-income neighborhoods. “Collaborating with NYC Parks and neighborhood volunteer groups, these eight conservancies are helping to bring world-class parks to all New Yorkers,” said Parks Commissioner Mitchell J. Silver.
