$12M Autism Clinic to Become a Reality

A Dallas-area couple has received $1 million in donations, enough to begin the first phase of an autism community center by the end of 2017. Clay Heighten and Debra Caudy are planning to build a $12 million center to cater to young adults with autism on 29 acres in the Denton County town of Cross Roads.

The couple, whose 19-year-old son is on the severe end of the autism spectrum, indicated a lack of “innovative models to provide long-term solutions to young adults with autism,” as those children grow up, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Caudy and Heighten, who invested $745,000 to purchase the land on Mosely Road in 2015, also created 29 Acres, a nonprofit, that helps raise money for the project. A groundbreaking date has not yet been announced.
