123-Bed Huntsville Memorial Hospital Acquisition Finalized

The Walker County Hospital District (WCHD) Board of Managers, in conjunction with Community Hospital Corp., are partnering for a new organization, Huntsville Community Hospital Inc. The company will own and operate the formerly troubled Huntsville Memorial Hospital, located approximately 70 miles north of Houston.

The Walker County Hospital Corp., which had been responsible for the 123-bed hospital at 110 Memorial Hospital Dr. in Huntsville filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in late 2019 due to financial struggles. WCHD acquired the hospital for $7.8 million in late February 2020.

The hospital will continue operating as Huntsville Memorial Hospital. Community Hospital Corp. headquartered in Plano, TX, will handle operations. “Aligning with CHC is the best option for HMH,” WCHD’s Anne Woodard told The Huntsville Item. “This move puts us on a path of renewal that allows us to advance on many levels–from operational and financial performance, to quality of patient care.”
