122K-SF OKC Education Building Gets Second Chance as MXU

The Oklahoma City Urban Renewal Authority selected Carpathia, a partnership between Ross Group and Nelson + Stowe, to re-purpose the 122,000-square-foot former Oklahoma City Public Schools headquarters. The aging building at 900 N. Klein, just west of downtown Oklahoma City, will be renovated into a hotel, along with a mix of retail and restaurants.

The school administration moved out of the 97-year-old building in 2017, and will soon be in its new home at 615 N. Clausen Blvd. At that site, the former Central Bank is being renovated and expanded for the district’s 185 employees.

Matt Newman with Tulsa, OK-based Carpathia, told the Oklahoman that the developer would pursue historic tax credits to preserve the school’s Prairie Classical design. Design work for the project is still in the conceptual stage.
