11K Acres Head to the Auction Block

NRG Energy is planning to auction off almost 10,000 acres of rural land it owns in Henderson and Anderson counties. Also coming to the auction block is 1,900 acres, currently owned by a ranching family. Hall and Hall, an auction firm in Colorado, will be auctioning the acreage, which will be presented in 16 tracts and combinations, according to its website.

The majority of the land was acquired by North American Coal Co. and Houston Lighting and Power in the 1980s.
The tracts range in size from 1.2 acres-2,104 acres, and consist of ranchland, pastures and farmland. The acreage is within two hours of Dallas and Houston, with small tracts available for commercial and residential development.

The auction will take place at 10 a.m., Tuesday. Nov. 14 at the Hart-Morris Conservation Center in Athens, TX.
