1,100-Acre Steel Property Sells

Frontier Group, headquartered in Buffalo, NY, acquired a major portion of the Weirton Steel site in Weirton, WV. The buyer claimed the 1,100-acre industrial property from ArcelorMittal, and has plans to repurpose the site. Terms of the transaction were undisclosed.

David P. Franjoine, president of Frontier Group, indicated the site has good potential for redevelopment. “Now that we have completed our acquisition in Weirton, we will immediately get to work on identifying what future development and re-use possibilities exist,” Franjoine said.

Much of the property purchased hasn’t been used for years, and includes Brown’s Island, a blast furnace, ore yard, rail sidings barge areas and a basic oxygen shop. The Weirton mill is not part of the sale.
