$100M Training Center to Go North at Lake Austin

The Holdsworth Foundation found an ideal spot on which to build a center that will train public education leaders across Texas. Pending zoning changes, the foundation could break ground on the 44-acre project overlooking Lake Austin in late fall. The project would include classroom space, a learning center, an international think tank, and casitas where faculty would stay.

Charles Butt, chairman and CEO of the H-E-B- grocery chain, launched the Holdworth Center to improve public education quality by developing leaders. The leaders, in turn, are important when it comes to teacher development and retention. Butt pledged $100 million to establish the center, which is on Ranch-to-Market Road 222, near the intersection of Lake Austin and Bull Creek.

The Holdsworth Foundation is under contract to buy the land from the Mueller family trust. The sales price is undisclosed. The Travis Central Appraisal District values it at close to $14 million.
