1,000-Acre Lease Signed for LNG Facility
NextDecade LLC, headquartered in The Woodlands, TX, signed lease agreements for 1,000 acres in Texas City, TX. The acreage will host a multibillion-dollar liquefied natural gas (LNG) export facility.
One lease agreement, with the city, encompasses almost 376 acres at Shoal Point, which is 40 miles southeast of Houston. The remaining 618 acres, which adjoins Shoal Point, belongs to the Texas General Land Office.
The Ports of Houston, Texas City and Galveston form the largest port complex in North America. The NextDecade project would represent the first LNG facility in the area. The site benefits from deep-water access and proximity to nearby natural gas pipeline infrastructure.
A construction date for the plant was unavailable, as was the project’s cost.
