100-Year-Old Raleigh Building Has New Purpose
Dukes Properties is ready to convert an old Pepsi-Cola bottling operation building into apartments and retail space. The company plans to revamp the former Orange Crush Bottling Co. building at 216 S. Washington St. The building, which dates to 1920, will house studio apartments of 500 to 550 square feet on the top two floors and two retail spaces of just under 1,400 square feet on the bottom floor.
The Raleigh Business Journal reports that Dukes is planning to spend roughly $2.5 million to $3 million on the project. Last year, the company spent $185,000 to acquire the building. Rental rates are expected to be aligned with the market, and Dukes expects to wrap up the renovations in 18 months.
Dukes Properties and Construction is no stranger to Rocky Mount, The company has repurposed two buildings downtown for apartment projects. Those are Studio 13 located at 118 S. Pearl St. and Grace Street Flats at 201-215 S. Grace St.
