10-Year Plan Unveiled for More Homeless Housing

Austin-based Mobile Loaves & Fishes (MLF) unveiled its “10-Year Plan to Mitigate Homelessness in Austin.” Along with the plan, the non-profit organization launched a $60 million capital campaign to fund the expansion of its 27-acre Community First! Village at 9301 Hog Eye Rd.

Community First! is a master-planned development providing affordable, permanent housing, along with a support system for chronically homeless men and women. The capital campaign would help the development of more than 1,000 new micro-homes and RVs designed for men and women coming out of chronic homelessness.

The village’s completed first phase will have more than 200 formerly homeless individuals on-site, when it reaches capacity in 2018. MLF plans development of phase 2 in 2018, with 350 additional home sites.

The campus also includes the recently dedicated Unity Hall, a 13,000-square-foot facility that will provide office space, conference rooms and a communal kitchen to support MLF’s food truck operation and catered events.
