$1 Billion Hydrogen Plant Slated for W. Phoenix
U.K. gas giant Linde and clean energy firm NextEra Energy Resources are partnering to develop a $1 billion hydrogen facility in the far west side of metro Phoenix. Hydrogen from the facility could power up to 3,000 trucks and help eliminate reliance on diesel.
Dubbed Gila Hydrogen Facility, the project will be built about an hour west of Phoenix, in Tonopah (Texas plant shown).
The Phoenix Business Journal reports the project team expects the facility to produce about $40 million in state income and local property taxes in the first 20 years of operating. It could also produce 300 construction jobs, 30 highly skilled on-site jobs and 60 jobs for truck drivers to distribute the hydrogen to customers from the facility.
Linde is also building a $600 million gas plant as part of the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. complex in north Phoenix.
