$1.74B Upgrades Recommended for King County-Owned Harborview Medical Center
A planning group unanimously recommended $1.74 billion in improvements to Harborview Medical Center, a King County-owned hospital in Seattle. The facility at 325 Ninth Ave. is managed by the University of Washington.
Among the recommendations are a new hospital tower envisioned to cost $952 million, a new $79-million behavioral health building, as well as several other renovation projects.
The Harborview Capital Planning Leadership Group was created in 2018 to study what improvements were needed as well as funding options. The county plans to seek funding via a bond measure, eyed to be on the November 2020 ballot, that the city council must approve. The group included representatives from the county, the hospital and union.
