Academy Sports + Outdoors to Open 126th Texas Store

Academy Sports + Outdoors is planning to open its next store in mid-November at the Magnolia Village shopping center. The center is at the southeast corner of FM 1488 and Spur 149, at 4353 Magnolia Village Drive. Capital Retail Properties is the site developer.

The Houston Business Journal reports that the 55,000-square-foot store will be Academy’s 126th in Texas and is part of a massive nationwide expansion by the retailer, which opened 9 stores in 2022, 14 in 2023, 16 in 2024, 24 in 2025 and has said it aims to open 20 to 25 stores this fiscal year. There are 327 Academy stores in 21 states. 

Businesses at Magnolia Village include a Lowe’s and several food and drink concepts along FM 1488, including Swig, Whataburger, McDonald’s, 7 Brew Coffee and Crust Pizza Co. Retailers include Milano Day Spa, Woof Gang Bakery and Grooming, and Crew Boutique. A Memorial Hermann building is also planned.
