Developer Jeffrey Soffer plans to rebuild the Big Easy Casino in Hallandale Beach and replace it with a 165,381-square-foot new casino, plus a four-story parking garage. The South Florida Business Journal reports the casino would include slot machines, a card room, a smoking lounge for slots players, a central bar, a live music venue, a steakhouse, and a sports restaurant. The restaurant space would total 34,344 square feet, while the bars would total 11,205 square feet. There would also be 9,755 square feet of administrative offices.
The Big Easy Casino site, at 831 N. Federal Highway, spans 23.8 acres. The current casino totals 262,931 square feet and was built in 1963.
Soffer is the head of Aventura-based Fontainebleau Development, which owns the Fontainebleau resorts in Miami Beach and Las Vegas, acquired the casino property for $12.5 million in 2018.
