McKinney’s Cannon Beach Reaches Construction Milestone

In what can be called the inverse of topping out, construction crews have completed digging a big hole in McKinney for a surf lagoon. The Dallas Business Journal reports the $200 million project, dubbed Cannon Beach, will include the 3.3-acre surf pool, a lazy river, cliff-jump platforms, a sandy beach and cabanas, along with restaurants, shops, an indoor action sports facility, a spa, a resort hotel and office space.

The surf pool will cost $6 million. Construction is expected to wrap up in March 2027.

The overall development is expected to take about four years to complete. Once opened, Cannon Beach could attract about 400,000 visitors annually and generate more than $2 billion in economic impact over the next two decades.

Cross Architects is leading the design. Cannon Beach is a partnership between Cannon, the city of McKinney, the McKinney EDC and the McKinney Community Development Corp.
