Cowboys Unveil Start Date for $1B Stadium Makeover
The Dallas Cowboys will begin improvements at AT&T Stadium in 2028. The Cowboys will ante up $750 million for the revamp, and the town of Arlington will commit $273 million through special revenue bonds over a 20-year period.
The town and the team say don’t expect to see a lot of flashy or obvious new additions or elements. Much of the work will entail enhancements to safety and security. The renovations will be spread out until 2043.
The Dallas Business Journal reports that Arlington Mayor Jim Ross said there is an estimated $324 million in annual economic impact from the Cowboys, which amounts to more than $9 billion over 30 years.
Arlington voters approved a bond package in 2004 to fund the stadium’s initial construction, with the first bonds being issues in 2005. The city said last year it paid off the initial bond debt 10 years ahead of schedule, helping save more than $150 million in interest and fees.
