U of A Breaks Ground on $247M College Dorm
As part of its policy to force most first-year students to live on campus, the University of Arizona in Tucson is building a $247 million, on-campus dorm. Called the Catalina, the dorm will house more than 1,300 students in the nine story structure. It is expected to be open to students in the fall of 2028. University of Arizona President Suresh Garimella, added, “Our students who live on campus for at least one year have a 50% higher four-year graduation rate than those who never do.”
Developed by Mortenson (MDI) and designed by Gensler, it will include a dining hall, rooftop pool and many other interior and exterior amenities.
For the project, Mortenson facilitated a tax-exempt financing structure in partnership with the Collegiate Housing Foundation.
Drawing on a national build-to-suit platform and deep expertise in complex projects, MDI partners with public and private stakeholders to deliver thoughtful, long-term real estate solutions that align with each partner’s goals & objectives.
