JBL Hopes to Convert Deerfield Beach Retail Center into 736 Apartments

JBL is pursuing a plan to redevelop a Deerfield Beach shopping center, converting it into apartments and some retail. The town is considering JBL’s plan to rezone a 13-acre parcel on S. Federal Highway. The S. Florida Business Journal reports the company paid $18.85 million for Rivertowne Square, a 144,000-square-foot retail plaza built in 1980.

Under the new zoning, the developer would build 736 apartments in two eight-story buildings and two parking garages with a combined 1,232 spaces. The site would have 75,527 square feet of retail, with 24,000 square feet of that new space on the ground floor of the apartment complexes and the rest of that existing space.

The two towers would have 394 and 342 apartments, with a pool, a clubhouse and a fitness center. There would be 116 studio apartments, 379 one-bedroom units, and 241 two-bedroom units.

It was designed by Deerfield Beach-based Gallo Herbert Architects.
