Vacant Arizona Center Office Tower Converting to JW Marriott Hotel
LaPour Partners plans to transform a once-thriving 19-story Phoenix office tower into a 340-room hotel. The Phoenix Business Journal reports the repurposed property at 400 E. Van Buren St. will be across the street from another signature hotel, the 1,000-room Sheraton Phoenix Downtown. Arizona Center was built in the early 1990s but has fallen into decline over the past 10 to 15 years.
The $200 million JW Marriott will include new restaurants, a resort-style pool, fitness center, ballroom, meeting spaces and a club lounge on the upper levels of the property. It will also have approximately 15,000 square feet of meeting and ballroom space on the upper floors of the tower.
Currently the Arizona Center office building is vacant, and the hotel project is in the design and pre-development phase. Interior demolition is expected to start in early 2027, with construction commencing later that year. The JW Marriott is expected to open in 2029.
