Publix to Anchor DeKalb County Shopping Center
Construction is underway on a new shopping center backed by public funding. The development will be anchored by a 50,325-square-foot Publix grocery store, and it will also feature an 11,200-square-foot retail building for multiple tenants.
The Atlanta Business Chronicle reports the $28.9 million project will take shape at Glenwood and Candler roads.
Approximately 2,000 square feet of affordable retail space will be reserved for local businesses, which will pay about 60% of market rent for the first five years. The redevelopment is backed by a $3.82 million tax allocation district (TAD) grant approved by the Decide DeKalb board. TADs are designated areas where new property tax revenue is set aside to fund projects within the same boundaries.
Venture South Investments purchased the 7-acre assemblage for nearly $5 million in June 2025. The developer has built Publix-anchored shopping centers across the Southeast.
Publix is expected to move into Candler Crossing in October 2027.
