Construction to Begin on Apartments in Evanston

Skender has begun construction on Mt. Pisgah Apartments, a new mixed-use affordable housing development in Evanston, Illinois, that will deliver 33 homes.

The development, led by Housing Opportunity Development Corporation (HODC) in partnership with Skender Construction, Mt. Pisgah Ministries and the City of Evanston, will transform the current church site at 1813 Church Street into a mixed-use community with affordable homes and neighborhood-serving commercial space.

The project represents years of collaboration and planning, including a creative land swap agreement that will allow Mt. Pisgah Ministries to relocate to a new worship center. Once complete, the property will provide affordable rental opportunities for one-, two- and three-bedroom homes to households earning below 60% of the area median income.

The development will also include approximately 2,250 square feet of ground-floor commercial space, shared community amenities and energy-efficient green building features. Mt. Pisgah Apartments will remain under the long-term ownership and management of HODC.

Join us on Tuesday afternoon, June 2, 2026, at the Connect Midwest Multifamily Trends Conference as JDL Founder, Jim Leitchinger, is honored with the Changing Skyline Award, followed by an exclusive Keynote Interview. This is a rare opportunity to hear firsthand insights from one of the region’s most influential visionaries in multifamily development.
