Amazon Moves Ahead on Long-Delayed Boston Tower Occupancy

Six years after signing a lease for One Boston Wharf Rd., Amazon is moving forward with occupancy of the property, its second built-to-suit Boston office building. The Boston Business Journal reported that the company received building permits this month for nearly $32 million in work, including offices, conference rooms and amenity spaces, along with mechanical, electrical and fire safety systems.

In 2024, the retailing giant said it wouldn’t begin move-ins at the 630,000-square-foot space it had leased from WS Development until 2027. Now the occupancy appears to be on track for next year, reported the Business Journal.

Amazon has occupied the neighboring 111 Wharf Way, also developed by WS, since 2022. Previously, it occupied WeWork locations around the city, which it has since vacated.

Amazon’s move-in would lead an expected next round of growth in the Seaport that will include new headquarters buildings for Gillette and Fidelity Investments, the Business Journal reported.
