Texas Continues to Lead Way for Newcomers

California’s loss, is Texas’s gain. According to a recent StorageCafe Analysis, the state remains the top destination for domestic migration, attracting more new residents than any other state.

StorageCafe’s analysis of the latest U.S. Census Bureau data shows Texas gained a net +76,000 residents in 2024, despite a broader slowdown that pushed interstate migration to a 10-year low. Move-in gains have been cut in half from the previous year, but Texas remains firmly in the lead.

California continues to be Texas’s largest source of new residents, with the California-to-Texas flow still ranking as the biggest state-to-state migration corridor in the country — a trend that continues to shape growth across major metros like Dallas-Fort Worth.

The data shows 210 Californians moved to Texas every single day in 2024. Texas home values run 59% lower and rents 30% lower than California’s. The math still works for Texas.
